Pros

  • Challenging gameplay with excellent mechanics.
  • Graphics are passable, and audio is great.

Cons

  • Not all players will appreciate this style of survival horror.
  • Higher levels in the game become quite frustrating.

In survival horror game Emily Wants to Play, players assume the role of an ordinary pizza delivery driver. He delivers a pizza to a quiet house only to discover that he's now locked inside the home. Emily and her three doll friends want to play a game with the delivery driver. Winning is the only way for him to escape the house of horrors, and losing means certain death in horrible fashion.

Basic Gameplay Mechanics

Emily Wants to Play tasks players with surviving from 11PM to 6AM. Levels are broken into individual hours within the game. At first, players encounter only Emily, and they can survive her onslaught by staring at her. Further levels in the game introduce dolls with separate mechanics, though. For instance, one doll requires players to look away from it to avoid death, and another requires players to leave a room altogether.

Difficulty Increases Right Away

For many players, Emily Wants to Play might seem like a simple game at first, yet the difficulty increases soon after. Each level presents a different combination of dolls to face, which keeps players on their feet at all times. The game takes place in a single home, and such a small environment offers up great jumpscares for players. Plus, a subtle backstory is discoverable in the house during gameplay.

A Game Worth Trying At Least Once

Emily Wants to Play isn't a graphical beauty, but the game looks good enough for most players. Mastering the mechanics requires patience and careful observation. To survive the game, players must use visual and auditory clues to avoid the Game Over screen. The game itself doesn't require more than a couple hours for skilled players. Still, players will feel stressed every step of the way.
